Parenting Successful Teens

“A mother’s job is endless…a selfless human who must sacrifice many of their wants and needs for the wants and needs of their children.” Sounds overwhelming but familiar, right? Maybe you’ve said “it feels endless” yourself.

That quote is the Google selected response to the search “what is my job as a mom”.  And there were dozens more answers that were equally overwhelming in their description on what a good mom does.  The problem is we’ve heard these expectations so often that we internalize them and then they start coming out in our own voices as facts.

We say things like “I shouldn’t have yelled”, because we buy into the idea that a good mom is infinitely patient.  Or we put aside our own wants to do something for our kids because “I just want her to be happy.” We take the smaller piece of chicken and forgo the Hamilton tickets to go to a gymnastics meet.

Listen to today’s episode and start changing where you are holding yourself to an unreasonable, outdated job description.

Rewriting your job description benefits both you and your family.   It takes consistent support and accountability but the benefits are huge!  (HUGE!) That’s why I want you to schedule a time to talk about how I could help you.  Click here to up set a free 45 minute call where we focus on your challenges and solutions.

What you’ll learn from this episode:

  • Examples of the difference in expectations for Moms & Dads.
  • How society inculcates these beliefs until we think they are facts and then turns on us like Backstabbing Becky from 11th grade.
  • How we can feel better without needing society to change (good news!).
